A new early edition, reconstructed from an early manuscript from 1741! The \"Dallas Bach Society,\" an ancient instrument orchestra of the American Southwest, comes to Onyx from James Richman, artistic director since 1995, the first musician since Bernstein to graduate from Harvard University, the Juilliard School, and the Curtis Institute of Music, where he is a harpsichordist and fortepianoist. He is also an accomplished piano player. For his contributions to the field of music, the French government awarded him the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 1995. Handel composed \"Messiah\" in an astonishingly fast three or four weeks in August and September of 1741. The work was an immediate success, becoming Handel's most famous work and one of the most beloved pieces of Baroque music. Until his death in 1759 at the age of 74, Handel continued to revise the work, often to suit specific venues and the orchestras and choirs on hand, and left many editions, including the Dublin premiere, the London premiere, and the Abandoned Child Foster Home edition. This album features a new early version, reconstructed by British musicologist Malcolm Bruno, who spent eight years researching and reconstructing every detail of an early manuscript from 1741.
