Together with this quartet, we’ve reached a unique new level. It’s something very special. It’s a completely new endeavor. “While recording in the studio with Manfred Eicher, I was truly thrilled to see the group constantly evolving. Plus, those guys really play with a global perspective!” comments Lovano. In the Paramount Quartet, each member plays a part in carving out a striking and adventurous new chapter in Joe Lovano’s vast body of work.\nThe formation of the Paramount Quartet was sparked by Joe Lovano’s first meeting with Asante and Will at a charity event held in 2023 to support hurricane victims in Puerto Rico. The three hit it off immediately. Joe explains, “Sometimes, the moment you meet someone, it feels as if you’ve been best friends since birth. That’s exactly what happened between Will, Asante, and me.” Bringing Julian into the fold was a natural progression, as Joe and Julian had been discussing the possibility of collaborating someday ever since they were part of Joe’s ensemble at the Berklee College of Music around 2006.
