Italy is a country that Liszt loved very much and lived in for many years. Many of Liszt's masterpieces are dedicated to Italy. These include transcriptions, paraphrases, and variations on works by famous Italian composers, as well as barcarols and tarantellas based on canzones and other popular Italian songs. The two discs on this album feature a selection of these works that are emblematic of the cities of Venice and Naples. The album is a must-listen for Liszt lovers who will enjoy listening to Liszt's love and admiration for Italy in these superbly technical and gorgeous works, accompanied by Catena's Italian-like singing on the piano. Costantino Catena (Piano) began playing the piano at the age of four. Studied at a local music school under Luigi d'Ascoli. Later, he studied with Constantin Bogino, Bruno Mezzena, and Boris Bekhterev. His encounters with Aldo Ciccolini and Joaquin Achuaro were also important turning points in his musical studies. He has won prizes in numerous national and international competitions. He has been a member of major musical and cultural organizations and institutions in Europe, Australia, Japan, the United States, and Russia, including the Dante Alighieri Society, the Italian Cultural Institute, the Angelica Costantiniana Academy, the Ravello International Music Festival, the Kusatsu Summer International Music Festival, the Kennedy Center, the Tchaikovsky Memorial Moscow Conservatory, and many others. She has been invited to perform by major music and cultural organizations, institutions, and festivals. For Camerata Tokyo, he has recorded the complete works for violin and piano by Franz Liszt with Mauro Tortorelli. He is a professor of piano at the Giacomantonio Conservatory in Cosenza.
