He was the first Composer-in-Residence of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, founded under Neville Marriner, and has been commissioned by many orchestras. The world premiere recording on this album, \"Concerto - Fantasy,\" was composed for Vietnamese pianist Quynh Nguyen and features melodies inspired by traditional Vietnamese music, sometimes with a jazz flavor, and a yearning for a peaceful past. Other pieces include \"Four Beethoven Fantasies,\" in a familiar style, and \"Bagatelle Collection,\" which takes its subject matter from haiku. The \"Ami,\" written in celebration of the marriage of pianist Pascal Roger and his wife Ami, is a work with a connection to Japan, as \"Akatonbo\" was used as the material for the fourth piece, and Rieko Aizawa participated in this performance.
