Michiaki Ueno, cellist and winner of the cello section of the Geneva International Competition in 2021, will perform a magnificent performance of J.S. Bach! Michiaki Ueno, the first Japanese winner of the cello section of the Geneva International Competition in 2021, has taken up the challenge of recording J.S. Bach's "Suite for Unaccompanied Cello" in its entirety. In this recording, the young Ueno shows off his artistic individuality in a magnificent performance of this collection of works that cellists everywhere revere as sacred texts. The sense of oneness with the instrument, the inspired musicality that springs from the bow and instrument, the natural phrasing, and the extended timbre. Here is a Bach that is so natural and expansive that it is almost frightening! Comments by Michiaki Ueno (from the liner notes) - I actually wanted to learn the cello after watching a video of Yo-Yo Ma playing the "Suite for Unaccompanied Cello" when I was four years old. At first, my parents had no doubt that it was just a whim. ...... Since then, I have been familiar with the "Suite for Unaccompanied Cello" for the past 20 years. My family moved to different countries and I had different cello teachers, but all of them were always there for my study of the "Suites for Solo Cello". I was nurtured by Bach's music, so it was unthinkable for me to take up repertoire other than the "Suites for Solo Cello" for this album. I am aware that this performance is only an indication of my current understanding of this collection.Perhaps I will be dissatisfied with this performance in a few years. ...... However, I do not think that I will be able to say "this is a complete performance of Bach" for the rest of my life. ~This is an astonishingly natural and musical Bach performance that shows Ueno's present and brightly opened infinite possibilities! Profile: Michiaki Ueno was born in Paraguay in November 1995, and began studying the cello in Japan at the age of five. In 2015, at the age of 19, she was invited to Germany by the famous Dutch cellist Peter Wispelwey. In 2007, at the age of 11, he made his concerto debut as soloist in the Lalo cello concerto at Suntory Hall in Tokyo. In 2009, at the age of 13, she became the first Japanese winner in all categories of the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians. The following year, she became the youngest ever winner of the Romanian International Competition, and was also awarded the Romanian Embassy Prize and the Romanian Radio Cultural Bureau Prize. In 2014 he won the Johannes Brahms International Competition, and in 2021 he became the first Japanese winner of the cello division of the Geneva International Competition, where he was also presented with three special awards, including the Young Audience Award.
