Since then he has been teaching at the Moscow Conservatory as Gornostaeva's assistant, a position he has held since her death. On this album, he performs two works by Rachmaninoff. Piano Sonata No. 1, inspired by Goethe's Faust, was written in 1907. Although it has not been performed as often as the famous No. 2, perhaps because of its length and difficulty of performance, it is a large work characterized by thick chords and beautiful melodies that are typical of Rachmaninoff. On the other hand, the 1931 \"Variations on a Theme by Corelli\" is the only piano piece Rachmaninoff wrote after fleeing the Russian Revolution in the United States.
