In 1738, the Treaty of Vienna brought the Bourbon King Carlo to Naples, and he demolished the San Bartolomeo Opera House to make way for the magnificent Teatro San Carlo, a building of royal proportions. The Teatro San Carlo became a landmark due to the splendor of its architecture and the high standard of its productions, which continue to be performed regularly to this day.
