With his long experience as a singer's accompanist, Diatkin truly enjoys accompanying singers, but in recent years, with the retirement of many of the singers he had worked with in the past, the opportunities to do so have dwindled. He therefore decided to perform and record Liszt's arrangements (transcriptions) of Schubert's and Wagner's works for solo piano, so that he could \"sing\" on his own. Another unique feature of this recording is the use of a Siedmayer grand piano built in Stuttgart in 1916. Conceived by piano tuner Laurent Bessière of Philarmonie de Paris, the instrument was tuned in collaboration with Antoine Letessier-Salmon of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in France and piano maker Stéphane Porello. You will enjoy a tone that is different from that of modern state-of-the-art pianos of today. Diatkin demonstrates his skills as a concert pianist in Liszt's masterpiece Ballade No. 2.
