Although his successes in the operatic and vocal fields were more conspicuous, he also left behind two piano concertos, a piano sonata, and a number of sonatas with violin or flute. The four duets for piano and harp on this album are beautifully melodic works that show his reverence for Haydn and Mozart and clearly demonstrate the characteristics of his style. Except for No. 2, which lacks a scherzo movement, the four duets consist of four standard movements: a flowing Allegro movement, an expressive slow movement, a lively Scherzo, and a lively Rondo. The performance on 18th- and 19th-century instruments, including restored instruments, conveys the atmosphere of the time of composition.
