However, he was an excellent pianist who studied under Cortot and won first prize in the piano department at the Paris Conservatory. As a composer, he was unable to ride the wave of the times, writing works with graceful melodies in the Impressionist and Neoclassical styles, rather than the avant-garde style that had become mainstream since the first half of the 20th century, and for a time his existence was forgotten. Recently, however, his stylishness, reminiscent of Poulenc and Ravel, has been reevaluated, and his works are being performed more frequently.
