A live recording of this monumental concert that thrills Viennese audiences every year. The \"Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert\" is one of the most famous events of the Vienna Philharmonic, along with the New Year's Concert, and has been an established tradition of early summer in Vienna since 2008. The open-air concert, held at Schönbrunn Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is free of charge and open to 100,000 music fans, and is broadcast live (or recorded) to more than 60 countries around the world. The concert is known for its distinguished lineup of conductors, including Gergiev, Dudamel, Barenboim, and Welser-Möst, but this year marks the first appearance of maestro Lorin Maazel. Maazel has shown his overwhelming dignity as a conductor in his performances with the NHK Symphony Orchestra in October 2012 and with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra in Japan in April 2013, and it is still fresh in our memories that he has greatly impressed Japanese music fans with his deep and profound music. The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra is listed by Maazel himself as one of his \"three closest orchestras,\" along with La Scala and the Philharmonia Orchestra, and its performance activities span more than half a century. This year's anniversary concert will feature masterpieces from the operas of Wagner and Verdi. Despite being an open-air concert, the program includes \"Tristan\" Prelude and Death of Love, and other \"serious\" pieces that are well worth listening to.Of particular note is the inclusion of \"Tristan\" and \"Die Meistersinger,\" which were performed in Japan with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra at extremely slow tempos in an overwhelmingly masterful performance. The Swiss tenor Michael Schade will add a floral touch with his aria. As with the New Year's Concert, the CD will be audio recorded by Teldec Studios and video recorded by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF). It will be interesting to compare the sound of the Terdek recording on the CD with that of the ORF video.
