The first collection is mainly Austro-German music recorded in 1967, 1972 and 1976. New reissue from the original analog master tapes of MPS! The world's first CD release of the treasures recorded by the famous German cellist Ludwig Herscher (1907-96) for MPS in 1967, 1972 and 1976! From the opening Brahms, the intense spirit and rich emotion of the music, the fresh and beautiful sound full of vitality, and the elastic and sharp rhythms speak to the listener with the excellent recording. The album covers the major cello sonatas of the late German Romantic period, including Rheinberger, R. Strauss, and Pfitzner. The set also includes Bach's Unaccompanied Suites No. 1 in the edition of his teacher Hugo Becker, and Reger's No. 2, which was dedicated to Becker, making it a must-have for anyone interested in the history of German cello music. This is the ideal reissue method for this release. The original sound quality is very good, and the excellent recordings are now even more beautifully restored on CD. Ludwig Herscher (1907-1996) was born into a family of music lovers who played in the family string quartet and began playing the cello at the age of six.He studied cello in Cologne, Munich, Leipzig, and Berlin with such virtuosos as Hugo Becker, Julius Klengel, and Wilhelm Lamping. In 1936, he made his debut as soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Wilhelm Furtwängler. In 1937, he was appointed professor at the Higher School of Music in Berlin. After the war, while serving as professor at the Stuttgart State University of Music and Drama from 1954 to 1972, he performed internationally and visited Japan several times since his first visit to Japan in 1953, giving performances and teaching at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. This two CD set is the world premiere of Helsher's previously unknown masterpieces recorded in analog stereo for MPS in Germany in 1967 and 1972-77 (only the second set, Chopin's Polonaise and Debussy's Sonatas, were released on CD by Bayer in 1995). These recordings have never been released in Japan on LP or CD, and were known only from the few German LP records that were available in Japan at the time.
