Although composed with the great castrati of the time in mind, hearing them sung with such masterful emotional expression by a sopranista—considered the closest modern equivalent to those castrati—evokes a sense of excitement, as if the true value of their ethereal charm is being revealed for the first time. Furthermore, the release is in a hybrid SACD format compatible with multichannel stereo playback, allowing listeners to experience the church’s cascading reverberation—a particularly appealing feature.
