Josef Lauber (1864-1952), a composer, pianist, and organist born in Luzwil in the canton of Lucerne, Switzerland, is often overlooked as a composer, although he is sometimes mentioned as Frank Martin's only teacher. He studied at the Zurich Conservatory with Friedrich Hager, a friend of Brahms, and in Munich and Paris with Rheinberger and Massenet, and left behind over 200 works in almost every genre. Conductor Kaspar Zehnder discovered Lauber's six symphonies in the music archives of the University Library of Lausanne, and this album contains the world premiere recordings of two of his early works. The first symphony, No. 1, which opens with an alphorn-like melody, is characterized by a fusion of German and French cultures that recalls the \"Rift of Rösti\" (the cultural boundary between German and French-speaking Switzerland), and the final movement with a solemn chorale by the brass is reminiscent of Bruckner. The Second Symphony is an attempt at a dialogue with the heroes of past symphonies, and while it evokes the influences of Brahms and Dvořák, it also reveals Lauber's own distinctive style.Tokyo M-Plus\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Schweizer Fonogramm","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":51435798004001,"sku":"7629999399235","price":1500.0,"currency_code":"PHP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/7629999399235.jpg?v=1751292671","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/en-ph\/products\/7629999399235","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
