Frank-Gemmill is the principal horn player of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra as well as a soloist, and in 2023 he was invited to be a soloist with the Deutsche Symphony Orchestra at the Philharmonie in Berlin, making him one of the top players in the orchestra. The horn is a highly technical instrument, and Frank-Gemmill sings eloquently and captivates the audience with his almost flawless technique. Frank-Gemmill is also active in recording, releasing \"Noble and Melancholy Instrument\" (BIS SA-2228), \"Early Horn Concertos before W.A. Mozart\" (BIS SA-2315), and \"Brahms: Chamber Works\" (BIS SA-2478) on the BIS label. The Horn Concerto was composed for Joseph Leutgeb (1732-1811), a friend of Mozart and a master horn player.The four concertos, composed over a period of about ten years from 1781 until Mozart's death, are the product of the same period as the three great operas \"The Marriage of Figaro,\" \"Don Giovanni,\" and \"Così fan tutte,\" all written to the libretto by da Ponte, as well as his last symphony and piano concerto. Mozart wrote elegant and refined works that make the most of the horn instrument's unique sound. This recording also includes the Horn Concerto \"No. 0,\" K. 370b and K. 371 in draft form, completed and restored by horn player Stephen Roberts.
