Teodor Resheticki is a pianist-composer who was born in Poland and studied piano with Czerny in Vienna. He was invited to become professor of piano at the Petersburg Conservatory established by Anton Rubinshtein and taught there from 1862 to 1978, laying the foundation for Russian pianism. He was known as a virtuoso musician with a unique method, and his students included legendary pianists such as Paderewski, Friedman, and Gavrilovich, as well as eminent pianists such as Schnabel, Elie Nye, Brylovsky, Korshovski, and left-hand Wittgenstein. Most of his compositions are salon-like pieces, but they are gorgeous and technical, and his pupils, who are great pianists, have performed them in concerts and recordings, but today we do not have many opportunities to hear them. Hence the long-awaited appearance of this disc. Tobias Bigger, born in 1962, is an individualistic German pianist who won a prize in an Italian competition in 1982 but worked as a lawyer before deciding to concentrate on the piano in 1998.
