After 1927, the monastery of Montecassino became part of the then newly created province of Frosinone (Lazio, Italy). Completely destroyed during World War II, the monastery was rebuilt according to plans between 1948 and 1956. The main instruments used in the performances are piano, harmonium, flute, violin, and cello, of which the cello is considered the most important. This is confirmed by the important cello solo scores and methods kept in the local archives, which also seem to indicate a strong attachment to this instrument. The works are both sacred and secular.
