Schoenberg's orchestral version of this youthful quartet is also very popular. Although not included here, the second quartet was completed the year after the first, and was the most popular at the time due to its cheerful tone. Brahms had completed the C-sharp minor quartet first before these two pieces, but this was eventually revised almost 20 years later and eventually became the \"C minor\" No. 3.
