Today he is better known as the teacher of Monteverdi than for his works. It is believed that he sang in a church choir in Verona as a child, studied under Cipriano de Lore in Parma, and later became music director of Cremona Cathedral. His works have been neglected for nearly 500 years, but the discovery of his scores in the 1960s has led to more research. This album contains a series of works for Holy Week and Easter. The centerpiece of the album is a parody mass, \"Taste Me,\" with its complex counterpoint and polychoral music, which more than demonstrates his ability as a master musician, for which he would have been highly respected at the time. Conductor Gareth Wilson was born in Scotland. He is also an excellent organist and is widely known for his performances of ancient music.
