Pasquini was active as an organist in Rome in the mid-1650s, and after serving the Borghese family for more than 40 years, he was admitted to the Accademia dell'Arcadia in 1706, along with Corelli and Alessandro Scarlatti, He was a highly regarded musician at the time. The \"Idalma\" was performed at the Teatro Capranica during the Carnival of 1680, and was based on the theme of \"fidelity and unwavering love between husband and wife,\" a favorite theme among the aristocracy of the 17th century, but was forgotten soon after its premiere.
