Starting with a work by Clara Schumann on a well-known poem by Rückert, the album includes a rare work by Emilie Meyer, who has attracted much attention in recent years, on Goethe's \"The Magic King,\" the same poem by Schubert, and a beautiful setting of Yeats' poem by the English viola player Rebecca Clarke, as well as other well-known and unknown pieces. The songs are sung with deep empathy, from the well-known to the unknown, chosen with a unique sensibility. The last piece, by South African pianist Kathleen Tagg, a direct friend of Schulz, and Lilla Palmer, an opera playwright in the U.S., also makes use of the piano's internal technique, combining high tension with the intimate beauty of a pop song.Piano is by Jonathan Ware, who has a long history of playing with Schulz.
