Hans Rott was born near Vienna and studied at the Vienna Conservatory. While studying with Mahler at the conservatory, he also learned organ playing from Bruckner and aspired to become a musician. In 1878, however, he submitted the first movement of his \"Symphony No. 1\" to the conservatory's composition competition, but the judges gave it a bad review. Bruckner, his only teacher, defended him, but he was not selected. After graduation, he tried to revive his career by showing his work to Brahms, but again he was criticized severely, and eventually he became mentally ill and died at the young age of 25. However, recent research has revealed that Mahler quoted from Lott's works, and his originality has begun to be appreciated. This Capriccio series of recordings of Lott's orchestral works, including reconstructed versions, is intended to preserve Lott's fascinating legacy for future generations. The first collection includes six works, including the world premiere recording of the overture to \"Hamlet.Please enjoy Lott's works with the full depth of sound reminiscent of his teacher Bruckner.
