He studied music with Hermann Grappner from 1926 to 1928 and at the same time attended master classes with Hans Pfitzner. He was professor of composition at the University of Stuttgart. He remained a lifelong lover of tonal music, but as time passed from the Twelve Techniques to atonal music, he was completely forgotten. Later, he was considered a fascist in Germany, and he sadly passed away in 1984. His music, as mentioned above, always stays within the bounds of tonality at a critical point, which creates a strange sensuality. The order of the pieces on this album goes backwards from No. 3 to No. 1, but as you can tell from a quick listen, it is probably No. 2 that has the most radical sound.Nevertheless, it is only the neoclassical sound of Prokofiev and others that is somewhat familiar. The third sonata was composed in the 1940s, but was revised twice and published after the composer's death in 1992.
