After studying composition at Toho Gakuen School of Music, he completed his graduate studies at Toho Gakuen School of Music. Studied under Akira Miyoshi. In 1984, he was awarded the 7th Composition Prize of the Japan Symphony Foundation, and in 1985 and 1987, he won the first prize in both the orchestral and chamber music sections of the Hambach Prize International Composition Competition in West Germany, In 1985 and 1987, he won the first prize in both the orchestral and chamber music competitions. His orchestral works have been performed and broadcast throughout Europe; in 1988, his opera \"Twin Stars\" (based on Kenji Miyazawa's novel) was premiered in Sendai; in 1990, \"Humnos\" for two mixed choruses and orchestra was commissioned by the 16th Min'on Contemporary Composition Festival; in 2022, he will perform at Oji Hall. In 2022, he held a solo exhibition of chamber music at Oji Hall, Tokyo, and was awarded the Muramatsu Prize in 1991. He has been a member of Art Respirant since 2007, and has been a lecturer of composition at Tokyo University of the Arts from 2012 to 2017.He is currently a professor of composition at Toho Gakuen School of Music and a board member of the Japan Federation of Composers (JFC).
