Description:

The Montreux Jazz Festival and BMG have teamed up to launch a new series called "THE MONTREUX YEARS" that will unlock the vast collection of Montreux Sounds. The series will not only bring legendary performances by world-class artists back to life, but will also include a wealth of rare and previously unreleased recordings from the festival's rich 55-year history, along with a booklet featuring newly written liner notes and previously unpublished photos. This series is of great significance in the history of music. Mastering will be done by Tony Cousins at Metropolis Studios in London. The first two releases in the "THE MONTREUX YEARS" series are "NINA SIMONE: THE MONTREUX YEARS" and "ETTA JAMES: THE MONTREUX YEARS". Both are released in 2CD and 2LP formats, and contain a wealth of carefully selected live recordings, including previously unreleased material, from their many appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival. ETTA JAMES: THE MONTREUX YEARS is a truly remarkable and buried treasure of timeless classics, powerful and exciting performances, and raw performances by a great female vocalist. This album, featuring selected material from her concerts at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1977, 1978, 1989, 1990, and 1993, is an album that allows you to take your time and enjoy her musical journey and her phenomenal career. Beginning with the timeless classic "Something's Got A Hold On Me," which gave Etta James her first success, the album covers the highlights of the 1960s, including "At Last" - "Trust In Me" - "Sunday Kind of Love" The album includes a medley of 60's highlights such as "s Got A Hold On Me", the raw and emotional "I'd Rather Go Blind", and "Tell Mama" with soulful horns leading the song. The collection, filled with her stunning performances, closes with "Baby What You Want Me To Do," a tribute to Jimmy Reed that she performed as an encore at a concert in 1979. Montreux Jazz Festival was not only Etta James' first concert in Europe, but also a pivotal moment in music history.
