The ensemble has become a leader in the world of French classical music. This new album with Ricciardot, who is in great demand in the world of classical music, follows on the heels of Schütz: The Last Seven Words of Christ on the Cross SWV478 and Diekmann's Funeral Music (HMM-902350, recorded in 2020). After this Schütz recording, Doce and Ricciardot promised to record more of these laments, and Doce and others are gradually extending their exploration of the composers from northern Germany, who at the end of the 17th century bridged the bustling cities of the Hanseatic League with the court of Stockholm on the opposite shore of the Baltic Sea.At the time, Sweden was looking south rather than presenting its art internationally. This album takes us into the myriad shades of melancholy through works by Swedish, German, and Italian composers.
