And this album was released in the midst of a pandemic. But malaise seems so far away in Man Man now, and the new Man Man album, Carrot on Strings, has a revived sense of purpose, a mix of calm and confidence; Kattner and the band crafted the songs live, in five days, in August 2022 ( workshops in front of an audience during the Man Man tour), then spent the next few months developing other sound ideas. They then recorded the bulk of Carrot on Strings, in five days at Mant Sounds, a studio in Grassell Park, Los Angeles, with a settled producer, Matt Schuessler.The resulting album represents a new self-discovery for Kattner. He finds himself personally and artistically inspired and at peace in a way he had rarely found in the 15 years since he started playing music.
