Duruflé's \"Requiem\" was originally composed in 1947. Although it is a contemporary work, its beautiful world, which makes extensive use of Gregorian chant, is more pure than Fauré's masterpiece and is very popular. The original was a large orchestration including celesta and tam-tam, but Duruflé reworked it for small orchestra in 1961, and it is performed here in that version. Although the work is only 55 years old, it is rare to find a piece that is so well suited to old instruments, and one can feel the satisfaction of having finally obtained the definitive recording.
