Produced using a rich array of instruments—including keyboards, drums, bass, clarinet, a string section, and backing vocals—this album was recorded at Chem19 Studio, owned by the Glasgow-based label Chemikal Underground and previously used by Mogwai, with production by David McCollay (Mogwai, among others) and Paul Savage (Mogwai, Franz Ferdinand) served as producers. It is the most sophisticated and cinematic work he has released to date, encompassing themes surrounding contemporary society—such as “love, war, resistance, immigration, work, and play”—to create an album that paints a grand soundscape.
