Jean Lassalle (1847-1909), a baritone from Lyon, made his debut at the Opera in 1872, and since then has been active at the Opera, Covent Garden Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera. He sang the first performances of Sindia in Massenet's \"The King of Lahore,\" Sever in Gounod's \"Polyeucte,\" Malatesta in Thomas' \"Françoise de Rimini,\" and the title role in Saint-Saens' \"Henri VIII. Max Bouvet (1854-1943) was a baritone active in Paris, Brussels, and London. He sang the premieres of Prince Karnak in Lalo's \"The King of the Ies\" and Bishop Blois in Saint-Saens' \"Henri VIII\".Jean-Baptiste Faure (1830-1914) was the most important French baritone of the late 19th century. He sang in the premieres of many operas, including Nerusco in Meyerbeer's \"The African Woman,\" Rodrigue in Verdi's \"Don Carlos,\" and the title role in Thomas' \"Amourette (Hamlet).
