Bach and had excellent organ playing skills, but his style (favoring polyphony) was considered somewhat outdated at the time of the change from baroque to classical music. He was considered to be somewhat outmoded at a time when the Baroque was giving way to the Classical, and he was unable to gain any important positions or prestige. This meant that he was able to write a large number of works, which unfortunately remained largely unpublished until the 20th century. This sonata and sonatina were recorded for the first time by Jan von Busch. Johann Georg Stein, who built the organ used here, was the same age as Kreps, and although it was slightly damaged during World War II, it is probably the best preserved instrument in Thuringia.
