Here lies the result of their delicate yet dynamic musical experimentation, born from their unique chemistry. The highly anticipated contemporary jazz collaboration album, *SLO-MONEONLUMINATEHOVERINGS*, is now complete.\n\nAmbrose Akinmusire, one of the premier trumpeters on the contemporary jazz scene and a highly acclaimed composer, and Mary Halvorson, a rising star jazz guitarist and composer based in Brooklyn. These two artists are releasing a collaborative album.\n\nHaving long respected each other’s musicality, the two have been jamming regularly since they first met in 2009 at Halvorson’s apartment in Brooklyn. The tracks on *SLO-MONEONLUMINATEHOVERINGS* were rehearsed just before a performance at the New York club “The Stone” in January 2025 and recorded the following day at SearSound Studios. The album features a total of nine tracks: four new songs written individually and one co-written track. Listening to the lead track, “Soundcheck,” offers a glimpse into fragments of their musical experimentation and dialogue.\n\nThe duo had attempted to record an album twice before, but they say they finally feel they have created something they are satisfied with during this third session. Regarding the bond between them, built through years of friendship and collaboration, Halvorson says, “I think it’s a shared aesthetic sensibility and the ease with which we communicate. We can try anything without feeling pressured.” Akinmusire agrees. “It’s rare to meet an improviser who accepts everything yet doesn’t force a single thing. It’s rare to feel that you don’t have to do anything, yet you can do anything. That’s exactly why I love playing with Mary.” On this album, Akinmusire uses effects pedals as a new experiment. This was sparked when Halvorson—who regularly uses them on her guitar—handed him an older model of her own effects pedal just five minutes before rehearsal. “Ambrose had said he wanted to try out the Line 6, so I gave it to him five minutes before rehearsal. I was amazed that, in literally just five minutes, he started producing unbelievably wonderful sounds,” she recalls.\n\nAkinmusire, whose primary motivation is the spiritual and practical value of art, and Halvorson, who refuses to settle in one place and is constantly exploring music. This is a new collaboration between a trumpeter who is a strict practitioner who allows no compromise in creativity and one of the most avant-garde guitarists on the contemporary jazz scene. Here lies the result of the delicate and dynamic musical experiments born from their chemistry.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Nonesuch","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":52745765978401,"sku":"75597892819","price":237.0,"currency_code":"NOK","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/75597892819.jpg?v=1779306510","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/en-no\/products\/75597892819","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
