Harding's fourth appearance! New Year's Concert at Teatro La Fenice, Venice, Venice, Italy. Five of Verdi's operas, "Ernani," "Attila," "Rigoletto," "La Traviata," and "Simon Boccanegra," were premiered at this theater, making it one of the most prominent theaters in Italy, the birthplace of opera. The theater was built after a fire that broke out once every 500 years, and the name "Fenice" is a reference to the Arabian phoenix that rises from the ashes once every 500 years. The first fire was in December 1836. It was rebuilt the following year, ushering in a period of glory. And the second was in January 1996. Devastated, it took eight years to rebuild, with a re-opening concert in December 2003 conducted by Italian maestro Riccardo Muti, and the phoenix, revived from its fire loss, celebrated its rebuilding with a New Year's concert on New Year's Day 2004, conducted by Lorin Maazel.Later, Kurt Mazur, Kazushi Ohno, John Eliot Gardiner, Georges Prêtre, Myung-Whun Chung, and others take the podium to celebrate the start of the New Year. Daniel Harding, who appears in this video for the fourth time, following appearances in 2011, 2015, and 2021, will be joined by a star-studded cast of singers, including Federica Lombardi, a hot soprano nominated for a 2022 Opera Award; tenor Freddie De Tomaso, a young talent who is currently making waves in opera houses around the world; and the renowned singer, John Elliott Gardiner, who has been nominated for an opera award in the past.
