With the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Nicholas Colon and Peter Jablonski on piano, the performers are also noteworthy! Grażyna Bacewicz dominated the Polish music scene in the 20th century as a performer and composer. As an accomplished violinist herself, violinists have long paid attention to her works, but in recent years, her piano works have also attracted widespread attention as Christian Zimmermann and others have begun to perform them. This CD, produced in collaboration with the Adam Mickiewicz Society as part of an international cultural program commemorating the 100th anniversary of Poland's restoration of independence (2018), features three concerto works by Bacewicz. All of them are extremely rare and valuable because there are very few recordings of them. Bacewicz had the following to say. I am isolated [from my Polish contemporaries] because of my emphasis on form in my works. I am isolated [from my Polish contemporaries], because I emphasize form in my works. If you put things in a mess, or throw a stone at a pile of things, they are bound to collapse. Similarly, music needs structural rules so that it can stand on its own.As he says, both the two concertos and the \"Music for Strings, Trumpet, and Percussion\" are in the traditional three-movement form of rapid-fast-moderate-rapid, but the diction is in the style of Bacevich, who is said to have been an extraordinarily passionate musician. The two movements are energetic and virtuoso, while the middle movement is pensive, deeply prayerful, and awe-inspiring, in vivid contrast. The technical demands are high, but both soloist and orchestra are in full command in this recording. The overture is placed at the beginning to make it sound like an evening concert.
