The \"Techniques of the Violin,\" Op. 3, included on this album, is a collection of only cadenzas for \"12 Violin Concertos\" for violin, string orchestra, and basso continuo. Locatelli called the technical cadenzas \"capriccios\" (capriccios), and here all kinds of string techniques are employed, including chords, arpeggios, and double stops, making this perhaps the most difficult work to perform of all the pre-Paganini works. The final caprice is a cadenza for a sonata by Rubell, a French composer of the same generation. This is another gorgeous, beautiful, and technical work. Luca Fanfoni is a violinist with numerous recordings on the DYNAMIC label. He specializes in classical works by Paganini, Vivaldi, and others, and his \"12 Concertos,\" the basis for this album, has already been released (CDS-394).
