However, his intense presence continues to be a great inspiration to his contemporaries, from the Roman historian Suetonius to Albert Camus and, of course, to poets and playwrights up to the present day. To be sure, Caligula may have been insane, but he had a future ahead of him and a visionary in his gaze. Pagliardi's opera \"Caligula\" weaves an allegory into the life of the emperor and turns it into a fantastic opera. In this production, all the characters are played by marionettes, wooden puppets, making the absurd story more realistic. The marionettes are directed by Cticchio, a veteran puppeteer born in 1948.He is a man who learned the ways of the puppeteer from his father Giacomo and has traveled from village to village in Palermo to practice. The music is by Le poème armonique led by Dumestre with excellent singers, bringing to life this little-known work from the late 17th century.
