Although not much is known about Villeneuve, it is said that he was born into a relatively noble family, joined the church choir in Arles as a child, succeeded André Campra as the church music director, and met Rameau and others after moving to Paris. The \"Church Music Collection\" contains six motets, nine lusons de tenèvre, and a miserere, and is dedicated to Marie-Louise Adelaide d'Orléans of the Shell Abbey in France. It is not clear if this dedication was intended for the position of music director at the Abbey of Cher, but the Luson de Ténèbre for soprano and basso continuo, for example, would have colored Marie-Louise's musical life at the abbey. The style of this work, published five years after the publication of F. Couperin's L'Uson de Tenebre, suggests that Marie-Louise was aware of Couperin's style.The recitative is alternately slow and fast, and also makes extensive use of dissonances, seven chords, and nine chords, which make the text more dramatic.\n\n\n\nEnsemble Vedado was founded in 2014 by gamba player Ronald Martin Alonso, and is an up-and-coming ensemble that performs everything from baroque to contemporary music.
