The album features the six surviving motets of the Flemish composer Hermann Matthias Velekor, who was music director (maestro dicappella) of the Milan Cathedral for almost 30 years, but is now little known, as well as the music of the composer Frankinus Gaffius, who served as music director of Milan Cathedral before Velekor, and the music of the composer Hermann Matthias Velekor, who served as music director of the Milan Cathedral after his retirement from the position. The program is significant in that it reconstructs, from the materials in the Milan library, works written for Milan Cathedral by Frankinus Gaffreius, who was the music director of Milan Cathedral before Vercoll, Gaspar van Werbeke, a Netherlandish composer who worked in Milan, and Dominique Finot, a French-Flemish composer who spent most of his life in Italy. With the exception of works by Josquin des Prez and Gaffreius, all are world premiere recordings.
