Shumsky, who made his debut at the age of 7 with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Stokowski, did not perform in Europe for a long time after World War II, and his fame remained in the United States. That all changed with his debut recital in London in 1981, a sensational success that led to a flood of requests for performances and recordings, and several recordings were made, mainly for British labels. This Mozart recording was made in 1985 and released on LP by EMI as EL2703554. After that, it disappeared from the catalog for a long time without being released on CD, but here it is on CD for the first time, much anticipated. The recording was made by Andrue Keener \u0026amp; Mike Clements, who later became the greatest recording artists in the UK, and Schumsky had the original recording rights. The LPs were digitally remastered under the supervision of Keener by Dennis Patterson, who has reissued many Biddulph albums. The booklet (12 pages in English) includes photos provided by Eric, track descriptions, and performer profiles, as well as Keener's recollections of the recording session and the difficulties he encountered in editing and mastering the recording, which were unique to the early days of digital recording. The session was relaxed, but Schumsky's demands in interpretation were high, and he emphasized that \"Mozart was an opera composer\" while showing the phrasing he wanted. Schumsky's performance here is noteworthy not only for its moderately calm tempo, stable technique, and beautiful sound, but also for its performance of his own cadenza in the third movement.
