The band started in the early 1980s when Stevie Blaze (G) joined the New Orleans band Oz, and in 1987, former Stiff members Ron Taylor (Vo), John Starr (G), and Rob Stratton (B) joined forces with Lillian Axe members Stevie Blaze (G), and Danny King (Dr), making for a classic lineup. The band was noticed by Ratt's management and signed a record deal with MCA, and Ratt's Robin Crosby produced the band's first album, "Lillian Axe". Their next album, Love and War, does not meet commercial expectations and MCA Records terminates the contract.The band moved to Grand Slamm/I.R.S. Records and released the 1992 album Poetic Justice, which replaced Rob Stratton and Danny King with Darren De Latto (B) and former Dirty Looks member Gene Bannett (Dr ), respectively, the album was the band's most successful to date, reaching #28 on the BillboardTop Heatseekers and featuring the single "True Believer" and the classic ballad "The Promised Land".
