Bach / Spering, Christoph

Description:

The latest in the Bach: Cantatas series by the prodigy of ancient music, Spöring. Christoph Spöring, a great authority in the world of German classical music, has been actively performing and recording with Das Neue Orkestadt and Kohl's Musiks Köln. He has recorded Bach's cantatas for DHM starting with Cantata No. 80, "Our God is a Firm Fortress," followed by "Lutheran Cantatas," "Cantatas to the Glory of God," "Cantatas in Praise of God," and "Cantatas from the Second Leipzig Period," all of which have been recorded with a "theology The "homogeneous and harmonious persuasiveness in the interaction between chorus and orchestra, without emphasis on the large-scale, balanced tempi, and skillful solistic accents expressed with delicacy" have all received high praise worldwide. It has received high acclaim. My God's Will Be Done contains a series of chorale cantatas written by Bach between Trinity Sunday, 1724, and Easter, 1725, emphasizing the unified compositional beauty and one-chorale-based form typical of Bach's cantata second annual cycle. Christoph Spelling brings Bach's music to life with a historically informed approach. Featured here are Nos. 5, 33, 94, 111, 113, 135, and 178. The beautiful "What shall I seek in this world," BWV.94, is particularly interesting for its clever opening flute solo, reminiscent of a flute concerto. The short cantata "O Lord, this poor sinner," BWV 135, which begins with a chorus composed of instrumental ritornello with strings and oboe, is characterized by the opening chorale melody heard in a low tone. Both "Only to Thee, O Lord Jesus Christ" BWV 33 and "O Lord Jesus Christ, Thou most precious treasure" BWV 113 also begin with a beautiful, expansive chorale. Spelling has studied these pieces from many perspectives, including religious understanding, playing style, and instrumentation, and has come up with fresh, carefully thought-out new interpretations for the recordings.
