The popular Berlin Philharmonic horn player Sarah Willis recorded the album \"Mozart and Mambo\" (ALPHA578\/NYCX-10151) with Cuban musicians in 2020 and it became a worldwide hit. A local friend said, \"Mozart would have been a wonderful Cuban,\" and this led to a curious plan to combine Mozart with Cuban music, which she herself loves, and this created a very interesting synergy. After surviving the Corona disaster, a second analog version was released in 2022, which was also a big hit. Along with Mozart's two horn concertos, the main focus of this release are six \"Cuban Dances for Horn, Strings, and Percussion,\" commissioned by young Cuban composers. The Berliner Philharmoniker will be joined by Sarah Willis, whose extended solos are rarely heard in the Berlin Philharmonic, and the audience will be able to enjoy the charm of Cuban music, which is full of joy and enthusiasm. The taut voice of Carlos Carlunga, who also toured with the Buena Vista Social Club Band, the virtuoso guiro (guiro) player Enrique Lazaga, who celebrated his 83rd birthday during this recording, and the wonderful playing of the Havana Lyceum Orchestra are also major highlights of the recording.
