He began recording for Columbia Records in 1939, recording works by Gian-Francesco Malipiero (1950) and Debussy and Ravel (1951-1953). He also collaborated with jazz clarinet virtuoso Benny Goodman on Mozart's Clarinet Quintet.\n\nThis album was recorded live in Washington, D.C. in 1946. The program features works by Eastern, Russian, and Central European composers, including Hungarian Dukhonani, Prokofiev from the Soviet Union, and Dvořák from Czechoslovakia. The founding brothers, violinist Sylvain Schulman and cellist Alan Sylvain, are second-generation Russian immigrants, and their passionate performance of Russian and Eastern European music is unrivaled.
