The fifth volume of this series is the first in a series of 17 volumes, each of which is based on a different work of Bach. This fifth volume contains works performed in Leipzig from November 2, 1723 (BWV 194.2) to December 25, 1723, the first day of the Nativity (BWV 63).BWV 194.2 is a cantata based on a lost secular cantata from the Köthen period (BWV 194.1) and was written for the dedication ceremony of the church organ in Stelmthal near Leipzig, which took place on November 2, 1724. Bach himself authenticated and dedicated the new organ, which was built by Hildebrandt, a pupil of the renowned Zilbermann, and even composed the music for the dedication ceremony. While the celebratory music is a parody of his own old secular music, we know that the cantata was subsequently performed again at least on the feasts of the Holy Trinity in 1724 and 1731.
