The sharp ensemble of the ironclad lineup—PAUL WELLER, BRUCE FOXTON, and RICK BUCKLER—and their lyrics brimming with social anger garnered immense support as the voice of the youth of the time. This recording captures their legendary live performance at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 20, 1982, just before their breakup. Coming after the release of their final album, THE GIFT, this tour showcased a mature sound that blended their early explosive energy with influences from Motown and funk, documenting the band's most dynamic period of evolution.\n\nThe performance unleashes a torrent of energy, featuring tracks like \"START,\" where PAUL WELLER's razor-sharp guitar cutting shines over a frantic beat, and \"A TOWN CALLED MALICE,\" whose groove evokes a soulful horn section.Furthermore, their respect for their musical roots is clearly etched in tracks like their cover of THE KINKS' \"DAVID WATTS,\" which had already become their own, and the driving energy in their rendition of CURTIS MAYFIELD's \"MOVE ON UP,\" which foreshadowed THE STYLE COUNCIL.\n\nThis is a precious audio document allowing listeners to relive the astonishing level of polish and passion this band, whose career was short yet intense, displayed on American soil. This night, where the pride of being mod icons and the ambition to explore new musical horizons sparked, is an essential live archive for all rock fans.
