The four pieces were composed during World War II, and they show how British music changed from the influence of late Romanticism and nationalism to the modernist style. This transition is portrayed in the four \"rediscovered\" pieces on this album. British clarinetist Peter Sigleris is active in the United Kingdom and elsewhere as a soloist and chamber musician, including as principal clarinetist of the Indian Symphony Orchestra with Charles Dutoit.
