With its mid-to-low register, it lacks the brilliance of an alto saxophone or trumpet, but it is a compelling instrument that draws the listener in with its depth.\nSagara first encountered the bassoon in a school band during his youth and was thrilled by the swing jazz that was part of their repertoire at the time. While he studied classical music due to the instrument’s nature, his heart was set on jazz. As he continued performing jazz alongside his classical activities, an invitation from bassist Shinichi Kato led him to launch this trio.\nThis album marks Rei Sagara’s debut as a bandleader, featuring a selection of songs that transcend genres, including jazz standards, classical, and rock. Arranged by pianist Taihei Asakawa, these pieces weave together into a single narrative, allowing listeners to fully appreciate the unique resonance of each instrument within a drumless ensemble.
