He trained Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Prokofiev, and Metonel. This album contains the complete symphonies conducted by Thomas Sanderling, as well as orchestral works and cantatas. It traces the development of the composer's style from his early works, which show the influence of Romanticism, to his last symphony, the Fourth Symphony, which became a large-scale masterpiece. Also included is the huge overture \"Oresteia,\" which has the air of a symphonic poem, the \"Concerto Suite,\" Taneyev's first work for violin and orchestra, and the cantata \"St. Ioan Damascene (John of Damascus),\" which is richly woven with ancient chants.
