Both No. 6 and No. 7 recorded here are large 40-minute pieces. Both works are world premiere recordings from the project to perform all of del Campo's 13 string quartets, and both are the first recordings of del Campo's string quartet No. 6, which he submitted under the pseudonym \"Ispania\" to the \"Charro Hidalgo Prize\" offered by the Ateneo de Madrid in 1907, on the condition that the string quartet \"uses a melody unique to Spain. No. 6, which Del Campo submitted under the pseudonym \"Ispania,\" is a familiar work based on a traditional tune from Asturias, Spain. Composed in 1911, it won the National Prize of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid, and was premiered in Paris for the first time abroad. In 1951, the version recorded here was substantially revised. The performance is by the quartet named after Roberto Gerard, one of the leading Catalan composers of modern Spain. The quartet performs with deep respect and empathy the works of a composer who was blessed with great talent and originality but unjustly forgotten.
