This is his first Schubert album, and here, too, he delivers a superb performance of a carefully selected program that is unique to Tharaud. The pieces on the album are \"Improvisations, D.899 Op.90\" and six pieces from the \"Musikalisches Musik\" cycle. So far, this is a conventional selection, but Tharaud has succeeded in presenting a unique world by combining music from the four \"Rosamunde\" pieces that he arranged himself. The Improvisation Collection is a repertoire that received great acclaim in The Guardian when it was performed at the Wigmore Hall in 2014. The first piece, in C minor, opens with a long, furious strike of unison chords in G, which tells us that this is an extraordinary performance. Following the four pieces, with their varied and fast-paced musical ideas, is the \"Rosamunde\" music.
